So, you ask, what does my child do in Grade 1/2?
School is of course a great place to work on social skills, learn about grit and empathy, among many other life lessons as well as learning about our world. But more specifically, what will be taught? For every grade and subject, there are grade specific learning goals known in the teaching world as learning outcomes. These outcomes are outlined in the curriculum documents for each subject and in Grades 1 and 2 we report on Math, ELA, Science, and Social Studies. K-12 curriculum documents can be found at the following website: https://www.edu.gov.mb.ca/k12/cur/ Below are some of the different programs, websites, and apps we use to reach our specific learning outcomes. |
Reading & Sight WordsRAZ Kids is the website/app we use to support the reading program in the classroom. On RAZ Kids, students listen to and follow along with reading, they read independently, and answer comprehension questions. I can assign books and students can record themselves reading so I can listen later.

When your child can read sight words fluently, it is estimated that they can read 50-75% of the children's books they pick up and read. These books are inexpensive and good quality. Please consider to order and use our class code once we get going. https://clubs.scholastic.com/home |
